jquery & addthis Issues Resolved In Firefox 3.6 & Above

I recently revamped my blog Facing The Mountain using the Diadema template which is converted for Blogger from Wordpress and I'm really happy with it.

I did experience some problems however when viewing the blog in Firefox 3.6 and above.

The first issue was that Firefox would 'hang' refusing to load and leaving me with a blank page. In the bottom left I would note the following: "waiting for code.jquery.com" A search on the web yielded little but eventually I came across this link: jQuery Library Performance Alert So I replaced this bit of code: "jquery-latest.js" with this: "http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.js" and Hey Presto the hanging problem was resolved.

Or so I thought...

In fairness the 'waiting for jquery' was resolved but now I had another 'hanging' issue as Firefox was now playing up with this: "waiting for s7.addthis.com". Again I searched the web but found little of help so revisited the html of the template and came across this line of code: "

Remove Underlining Of URL's

I personally dislike the constant underlinging of URL's as I think it makes an already cluttered blog look even more cluttered. So I searched the web and found many helpful blogs telling me how to do it, such as Tricks For New Bloggers. Sadly however, the template I'm using in Blogger didn't have the exact html code as most of the blogs were describing. Eventually I found this code:

a:link {
  color: $linkColor;
}
a:visited {
  color: $linkColor;
}

and simply edited it as follows:

a:link {
  color: $linkColor;
text-decoration:none;
}
a:visited {
  color: $linkColor;
text-decoration:none;
}

Voila! No more underlining. See my main blog: http://dpfinnie.com for full results.

Replace Contributors In Team Blog With Individual Profile

I was helping out a friend with her blog recently and it became clear I needed 'admin privileges' to be able to edit the html at my leisure. This immediately caused a problem as the Profile was replaced by Contributors. Whilst I was contributing technically I wasn't helping with the content so it was inappropriate to be listed.

After much searching I figured I'd have a go at it myself. In the words of Jeremy Clarkson: "How hard can it be?"

So here's what I did:
Firstly you need to host your profile picture somewhere, Picasa etc are ok.
Next open your blogger profile in a new tab or window, you'll need it in a mo'.

1 Go to Layout and add an HTML/Java widget
2 Copy and past this into the widget:

3 Replace bits in CAPS with your own URL's
4 Save widget
5 check all is OK on your blog
6 If all is OK, delete the Contributors/Profile Widget
ps: delete the (bits in brackets)
